Office Hours

Week of November 23

This week we'll continue to work on reports. You'll be assembling parts of a report using copy and paste. We'll review how to set up a document with double spacing (one blank line between lines) and two types of indentations: first-line and hanging indent. Please listen to announcement on extra lab time.

Week of November 16

This week we'll finish the Correspondence module on Tuesday with two documents: a memo and a letter. Be sure to review the material on both documents. Review materials may be found in the Correspondence link in the left frame and in the Nuts 'n Bolts book.

On Thursday, we'll begin the reports module. Please bring your book to class. If you need to work on assignments at home, bring a flash drive to class on Thursday.

Week of October 26

This week we'll be finishing up the tables module. For those who want a challenge, there will be a table exercise with a graphic.

Week of October 19

On Tuesday and Thursday, we'll review tables, e-mail, and word basics. Complete, save, and print TA-3 and TA-4. Save each document in the Module 3 folder in Drive F: YourLastName_TA3 and YourLastName_TA4. Send both jobs in one e-mail to wcctroeger@gmail.com. Place this text in subject line: table assignments. Continue with your keyboarding drills. We will also be working with Hawaiian diacritical marks and other symbols.

Week of October 12

On Tuesday, we'll wrap up Module 2 with an e-mail quiz. If you have already "passed" this assessment, please work on your drills. Module 3 will begin with a word processing discussion at 1:50 p.m. On Thursday, we'll work on tables. Tables are a very popular word processing feature which allows the user to build a grid consisting of rows and columns. The intersection of a row and column is a cell. Text or numbers are placed inside a cell. It is easy to organize data into a meaningful table, which can "speak" clearly.

Week of October 5

On Tuesday, we'll continue with the File Management Group Activity and begin working on UH Webmail. It is important that you learn to use UH Webmail because it allows you to keep track of where your attachments are located. On Thursday, we'll continue with e-mail. Points have been slightly adjusted for these two activities. There will also be time to work on keyboarding exercises.

Week of September 28

The first half of class on Tuesday will be spent on 1- and 3-minute timings. If you have not completed 11 lessons, you can plan on working on your lessons. The second half of the class will be spent on an introduction to file management. We will go over finding files and managing folders. On Thursday, we'll work in groups with different file types.

Week of September 21

This is the last week that will be solely devoted to keyboarding. Continue to work on your techniques: maintain good posture, keep your fingers curved, and check to see that your wrists are level. Don't forget to ask for visual checks after Lessons 4 and 11. If there are open seats in Noeau 124 at 8:15 - 9:30 a.m. on TTH or 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. on MW, you are welcome to slip in an take a seat.

Week of September 14 typing

There are two weeks remaining devoted solely to keyboarding. Some changes have been made to the drills; for example, some of you may notice that the keyboard has been "blacked out" and the backspacing key has been disabled for certain drills to help you improve your accuracy. After you complete Lesson 4, ask your instructor for Visual Check 1. She will cover your keyboard (and fingers) and ask you to type the home row, a few alphabets on the top and bottom rows, and the spacebar and the Enter keys. If you need more practice time, Noeau 123 has no classes from 11:30 - 12:20 MWF.

Week of September 7

Continue to work on your keyboarding techniques. Ask for a visual check when you have completed 4 or 5 lessons. Remember to breathe deeply and exhale slowly before you begin a new line.

Week of August 31

Click on the Module 1 link in the left frame. Work on the keyboarding drills via Keyboarding Online. Be aware of your techniques in terms of fingering, wrists, and posture. If you are having difficulty with the speed, please talk with your instructor.

Week of August 24

Welcome to BUSN 121. In this class you'll learn to key by touch, use Vista Windows operating system, and develop basic word processing skills using Microsoft Word 2007.

What materials will you need to get started? First, you will need to purchase an access code to Keyboarding Online by Ellsworth Publishing. By the middle of September, please purchase Word 2007, Level 1, by by Jill Murphy of Labyrinth Publications. These products may be purchased at the WCC Bookstore.

Before we begin, fill out the student information survey form located to the left of this frame.

When you've completed the form, click on the link to the Welcome Letter and read it. Your instructor will then introduce you to the course outline and schedule.
