In-class Activity

We'll be working in Chapter 5 (Projects 9A and 9B) and possibly Chapter 6 (Projects 10A and 10B).

When you open Excel, you are opening a workbook with three worksheets:  Sheet 1, Sheet 2, and Sheet 3.  Open the spreadsheet and study the different parts. Your instructor will show you how to enter your name on three sheets at the same time.  You'll be placing your name in cell A1.

___ Change the name of the first worksheet tab to Mod 1.

___ Change the name of the second worksheet tab to Mod 2. Repeat for five modules.

___ Familiarize yourself with the parts of the Excel window and the Home Ribbon.

Complete the Spreadsheet Project.

Complete Objective Exam covering spreadsheet terminology and the Chapter 1 concepts with score of 60% or higher.

Prepare for the concepts portion of the exam by going over the chapter questions at the end of Chapter 5 and part of Chapter 6. 

Study questions for spreadsheet terminology related to Excel:

  1. Where is the formula bar?
  2. Where are the Sheet tabs?
  3. What is the difference between a cell and a range?
  4. What is the quick way to select a range? 
  5. How do you select nonadjacent ranges?
  6. What is the Fill handle?  Draw a sketch of a cell with a fill handle.
  7. If text "bleeds" over from one column to another, does it occupy two cells?
  8. What is the default width of a column in pixels?
  9. How does one insert or delete rows?
  10. Describe three number formats in Excel.
  11. How do you change the number of decimal places?
  12. What conditions must occur for you to consider using an absolute cell reference?
  13. Should a total be included in pie chart?
  14. Is it possible to add pictures to a chart? How?
  15. Name two ways to put a header or footer in a spreadsheet.
  16. How can you put a spreadsheet that might print on 1.5 sheets of paper on one sheet of paper?
